Description
The Medtronic Biopump 540 is the 2nd generation of Medtronic’s centrifugal pump. Bio-Pump® Plus outlet opening design was created and evaluated using trillions of calculations governing fluid flow. The result is a vertical cutwater outlet design for the Bio-Pump® Plus that reduces shear by an estimated 40 percent and reduces hemolysis by 20 percent. This design defies conventional theory that circular outlets are more conducive to blood flow.
